Mustaches are to be trimmed 1/4" from nose and 1/8" from lip crown. Moustache ends where the mouth begins. The rest of the face is clean shaved. Think Clark Gable, not Josef Stalin.
Though we can never say for sure what the reason for the lack of helmet netting was, our best educated assumption is very simply and explanatory: for whatever reason or breakdown of the Quartermaster Department, the 5th Ranger Battalion simply was not issued helmet netting before D-Day. What about once inland, why didn't they appear to wear them then? This is another very simply hypothesis, they just didn't care. The average 5th Ranger would've been worried about taking the next objective and not being killed rather than what his helmet looked like. Furthermore, equipment re-supplies and rest periods were very, very seldom within the Battalion.

Confuso respecto a las "balas fijas del casco". ¿Qué demonios son?
Respecto a las malas cualidades del tabaco en tiempo de guerra, no tienen nada que ver con el asunto.
